School presentations
Leisa offers interactive and engaging school presentations designed to inspire young writers and share the journey of creating children’s chapter books. Presentations are tailored to different age groups and run at appropriate lengths:
Grades 1–3 (30 minutes)
A fun, hands-on session using photos, illustrations, and short videos to keep children engaged. Students are introduced to the writing process, learning how ideas become stories, and the importance of revising and improving their work — all presented in a way that is playful, visual, and age-appropriate.
Grades 4–6 (1 hour)
A more in-depth session exploring plotting, character development, and the importance of editing. Students learn practical tips for reviewing and refining their own writing, with examples from Leisa’s books to demonstrate how stories evolve from first draft to polished chapter book. This session encourages critical thinking, creativity, and confidence in young writers while showing the realities of being an author.
I’m available for school visits to inspire young readers and writers. Get in touch to book a session!

“Thank-you Leisa for sharing your journey behind writing and illustrating your fabulous books. Leisa took the students through the creative writing process step-by-step, highlighting the importance of drafting, editing, and reviewing to produce great writing. She clearly showed the importance of knowing your audience and the power of words to describe characters clearly through vivid writing. Students were captivated as she demonstrated how sketches evolve into final artworks. They especially loved recognising local Cairns places featured in the stories. Thanks for inspiring our young writers to keep practicing, to be persistent and to develop their own creative skills!”

“I liked that you wrote a story about your horse and the pictures you showed and that are in your book. I started to write my own book about a horse. I also liked the backgrounds in your pictures”
